Happy New Year! With 2023 over we have some stats to share along with site updates.

Overview of 2023

Overall, 2023 was an interesting year. There was what we’ll call the period of uncertainty, and then after that we were able to release many new videos for the second half of the year.

2023 Site Stats Recap

After the last day of 2022, the site stats were:

4,512,855 total pageviews (+4,259,785 accumulated views)
1,594 videos
261 unique creators
275,012 Visitors (+250,517 visitors)
15.49 Views Per Visitor (+5.16 Views Per Visitor)

After the last day of 2023, the site stats were:

13,941,629 total pageviews (+9,428,774 accumulated views)
2,516 videos (+922 new videos)
487 creators* (+226 new creators*)
643,574 (+368,562 visitors)
14.65 Views Per Visitor (-0.84 Views Per Visitor)

November 2023 was when the site started having, on average, at least 40k views per day.

Views per visitor went down slightly, although was still comparable to the year before. The site saw many more visitors.

There were fewer new videos than 2022 due to the “period of uncertainty” that we will get into.

*note there might be a small number of duplicates. This is the number from December 28th, 2023. As of January 25th, 2024 there are 510 creators in the listing.

The Period of Uncertainty

The first half of 2023 was a rough road as we were trying to work out the server situation. The first 3 months we slowed down releases, and then the site had a lot of downtime the two months after. Eventually we got back up and running on June 6th, 2023.

You can see this in the site stats below. This downtime and slowed release rate was what we call the period of uncertainty, and we want to prevent this from happening in the future.

Once we got back up and running in June, the site returned to releasing frequently.

Release Frequency and Plans

We’ve been averaging a release rate of 4 videos per day. The base release schedule we post just means that one video is guaranteed for that day, although whatever else is posted that day is subject to change since we have a queue of videos to manage releasing.

On January 14th, 2024 we analyzed the server usage stats.

Release rate of 3 per day = 264 days = roughly 9 months
Release rate of 4 per day = 198 days = roughly 6 and a half months

198 days from January 14th, 2024 (mid-January) is early August 2024 with a consistent release rate of 4 videos per day.

A slower release rate could allow time stretching if we need to figure more things out. Realistically this approach could work until beginning of October 2024.

We have two potential plans for moving forward with site expansion:

In April the backend dev has a project which HMV Mania as a site could potentially merge with.
Before reaching the “safe max”, we can look into the options on our site host for expansion.

Whatever one of the above two options we go with, we’ll have to make that decision depending on how that project goes and if it’s worth doing a merge.
