When you go to a video, you will see a blue Download button which redirects you to a download page where you can download the zip file that houses the mkv for said video.

Since video editors generally don’t support mkv files, you likely want to use a tool to convert it into a more accessible format such as mp4. Some examples are:
– Handbrake
– ffmpeg

With respect to Handbrake, you can do the following steps:
– To start, you will need to download HandBrake. To do this you need to go to handbrake.fr.
– Once there you can either download the main client or you can download the portable client as used in this tutorial.
– Once the client has been downloaded, head on over to our website and look for the video you want to download and convert.
– Click on the Download Button to be taken over to the confirmation page where you click the blue download button again and choose a destination for your file.
– Once the video file has been downloaded, extract both the HandBrake .zip and the video .zip into seperate folders on your desktop or chosen destination.
– Now that the folders have been extracted, open the HandBrake folder and open up the client.
– The first time you open the client, you must click on “Preferences” then on “Output” and once there look for “MP4 File Extension” and choose “Always use MP4”.
– Once changed, close the client and open it up again.
– Now open up the folder where you extracted your video to and drag the “video.mkv” file onto the Handbrake client.
– When loaded, look and make sure the extension is .mp4.
– Now click on “Subtitles”
– Click on the X on the far right corner of the first line and then click on “Add Track” and select “New Track”
– Now click on the drop down and chose the language you want to hard encode. For this tutorial we will chose “English (PGS)”
– Now go back to the “Summary” page and click on the green “Start Encode” on the top ribbon of the program.
– Now you have to wait for the video to process. The time may vary depending on the performance of the computer used to encode.
– Once done, open up your video and confirm everything encoded properly.
– Congratulations, you have encoded a video into MP4!
